Ahmet Büke

Ahmet Büke was born in Manisa in 1970. He studied Economics and Administrative Sciences at Dokuz Eylül University. He received 2008 Oğuz Atay Story Award with his book Alnı Mavide (2008) and 2011 Sait Faik Story Award with his book Kumru’nun Gördüğü (2010). The author, who has attracted attention with his short story collections, received IBBY Turkey’s “Young Adult Novel of 2013” award for his first novel titled Our State Is Deep (Mevzumuz Derin, 2013) published by ON8. Büke’s story collection Social Details Encyclopedia: I’m Good for Me, Too (İnsan Kendine de İyi Gelir), which received Dünya Newspaper’s “Book of the Year” award in 2015, was followed by Secret Lovers Society (Gizli Sevenler Cemiyeti, 2016), both published by ON8. In his “Zeyno Books” series he wrote for early readers; the series includes his picture books Oh No, Dad’s Writing Poems! (Eyvah, Babam Şiir Yazıyor!, 2017), In Space With Mom (Annemle Uzayda, 2017), Happy Days (Neşeli Günler, 2019) and Paspas on My Head, Kapish at My Ankle (Paspas Tepemde Kapiş Paçamda, 2020with fascinating illustrations by Sedat Girgin and Merve Atılgan. Büke also wrote a children’s novel titled Gökçe’s Way (Gökçe’nin Yolu, 2018) for the “Bridge Books” collection of Günışığı Kitaplığı. After Kırlangıç Zamanı (2019), where he collected his childhood memories, his picture book Çayırın En Tuhaf Yuvası (2020) met with little readers. The author, whose novel Deli İbrahim Divanı (2021) was deemed worthy of 2022 Vedat Türkali Best Novel Award, tells about the exciting days a boy spends with his grandmother in his children’s novel Grandma, Frogs and Life (Babaannem, Kurbağalar ve Hayat, 2022). His most recent children’s book is Şen Denizler (2023), and his latest novel is Kırmızı Buğday (2025). Ahmet Büke lives in İzmir with his wife and daughter.
