About the SDG Publishers Compact
The SDG Publishers Compact is a voluntary commitment that recognizes the responsibility of the publishing industry to create a sustainable future through action. Signatories aspire to develop sustainable practices and act as champions of the SDGs during the Decade of Action (2020-2030), publishing books and journals that will help inform, develop and inspire action in that direction. This compact follows other compacts for the Media sector and businesses in general. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals encompassing everything from health, to gender equality, and education, the Goals will mobilize efforts around the world to end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change, while ensuring that no one is left behind.

Why we chose “Climate Action” as our priority?
The global temperature has already risen 1.1ºC above the pre-industrial level, with glaciers melting and the sea level rising. Impacts of climate change also includes flooding and drought, displacing millions of people, sinking them into poverty and hunger, denying them access to basic services, such as health and education, expanding inequalities, stifling economic growth and even causing conflict. By 2030, an estimated 700 million people will be at risk of displacement by drought alone.

Taking urgent action to combat climate change and its devastating impacts is therefore an imperative to save lives and livelihood, and key to making the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Goals – the blueprint for a better future – a reality.

What are we doing?
As the first publishing house in Turkey to sign the SDG Publishers Compact, we raise awareness within our sector about climate action through the seminars and conferences we organize. In order to reduce the carbon footprints of our publishing house and our employees, we are working on a carbon emission measurement and reduction plan. We remind the publishing industry and all its stakeholders of this historical responsibility on every occasion, and invite them to join us.
