Saliha Nilüfer

Saliha Nilüfer was born in 1972 in İstanbul. Her first poems were published in various literary magazines. Known with her translations from English, Spanish and Catalan, Nilüfer translated the important works of famous authors like Alberto Manguel, Jorge Luis Borges, Mario Vargas Llosa, Javier Marías. After her first novel Bir Endülüs Hikâyesi (2006), her poetry book Yokoluş Serüveni (2016) and her first children’s novel Ekosemelek Kuklaları İşbaşında (ill. Canan Barış, 2018) were published. Saliha Nilüfer translated the picture book Süper Güçler Kitabı (2022; El gran libro de los superpoderes, 2017) from Spanish, the novel Hayatımın Rolü (2021; La pel·lícula de la vida, 2017) from Catalan, and the illustrated children’s novel Tuhaflar Kulübü (2023, El Club de los Raros, 2015) from Spanish into Turkish. Her fantasy children’s novel The Silver Dew (Gümüşsu Zamanı, 2021), illustrated by Elif Deneç, is about the main character’s effort to revive nature in a deserted world. Her second novel Moving to Backwoods (Fakirdağ, 2023), which focuses on the discoveries of a child who had to move to a small city, is followed by her novel Strange Events in Carefree City (Dertsiz Şehri’nde Tuhaf Olaylar, 2024), which humorously deals with consumption frenzy. Nilüfer lives in İstanbul with her husband and son.
