Sedat Girgin
He was born in İstanbul in 1985. After studying Painting at Anatolian Fine Arts High School, he graduated from the Industrial Product Design Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. He worked as a freelance illustrator for magazines and agencies, and has illustrated nearly a hundred books, including Kalemler and Beyaz Pantolon, two short stories by Yaşar Kemal. He won first prize in the 2010 Art Vespa design competition; he has participated in numerous group exhibitions and seminars, organized workshops and served in various juries both in Turkey and abroad. He held his first solo exhibition, Circus of Wonders, in 2013. In 2014, he was the cover illustrator for The Guide İstanbul magazine. His book illustrations were selected for display at the Biennial of Illustration Bratislava and the Children’s Book Illustrators Museum at Ege University in İzmir. In 2018, he was Turkey’s nominee for the Hans Christian Andersen Award in the illustration category. The artist currently lives in İstanbul with his wife, Gökçe İrten, and their son.
