Haydar Ergülen, one of the most prominent names in Turkish poetry after 1980, wrote his childhood and youth memories for awardwinning Bridge Books collection. The master poet who is also admired for his essay books, tells the history of his family in a lyrical way, creating a multicoloured, multi-layered picture of the last 60 years of Türkiye, from writers to musicians, from politics to education, from cars to furniture. Overview

According to him, his body shop worker father, Bald Hasan was sometimes a blue bald ibis, sometimes a green hearted man. They were six brothers; with their mum, dad and grandmother they were a large family like a “tribe”. He thinks the world smiles when his father smiles and he grew fond of books thanks to his father. Writers and poets from Yaşar Kemal to Sait Faik, from Füruzan to Edip Cansever were his companions…

Haydar Ergülen

He was born in 1956 in Eskişehir. After studying Sociology at METU, he pursued a master’s degree in Advertising at Anadolu University. He worked as a copywriter and taught advertising, creative writing, and Turkish poetry at universities. His first poem was published in Felsefe magazine in 1978. His poetry appeared in numerous magazines, including Somut, Adam Sanat, No, Öküz, Sombahar, Yaşasın Edebiyat, Yazko Edebiyat, Türk Dili, Yusufçuk, Yarın, Yeni Biçem, Gösteri, and Varlık.
