Karin Karakaşlı
She was born in İstanbul. She graduated from Boğaziçi University, Department of Foreign Languages and Translation, followed by a master’s degree from Yeditepe University in the field of Comparative Literature. Her first story book for adults was published in 1999. She received Yaşar Nabi Nayır Award in 1998. Her books for children and young adults are being published by Günışığı Kitaplığı. Her award winner young adult’s novel When the Moon Meets the Sea (Ay Denizle Buluşunca, 2008) followed by a picture book named The Night Sun (Gece Güneşi, ill. Şirin Dağtekin Yenen, 2011) which tells about imagination of a sister and her little brother. Then she wrote her young adult’s novel Four Pine Cones (Dört Kozalak, 2014) for “Bridge Books” series of Günışığı Kitaplığı. It was focused on the efforts of four teenagers who grown up in different environments and wishing to have university education. This novel brought IBBY Turkey Young Adult Novel of the Year Award in 2014 to Karakaşlı. Her next book was a children’s novel named Residents of the Old Mansion (Konaktakiler, 2016) and it was telling entangled stories of families emphatically. Her latest children’s book Volante the Flying Girl (Uçan Kız Volante, ill. Merve Atılgan, 2018) has an extraordinary story of a little girl who searches for the feeling of love. Karakaşlı lives in İstanbul.
