Aslı Der
She was born in İstanbul in 1975. Der studied philosophy at Boğaziçi University. She has many translations from English and French to Turkish. Her first children’s novel Sheroks the Little Witch (Küçük Cadı Şeroks, 2001) brought her deep and rich knowledge of philosophy into children’s literature. Then, in sequel to her first book, she wrote Big Trap (Büyük Tuzak, 2007) and the book was awarded as IBBY Turkey Children’s Novel of the Year 2007. She also took her extremely deserved place on IBBY Honor List in 2010. She completed adventures of Sheroks with The Rooms of Peace (Barış Odaları, 2014). After her other fantastic children’s novels 3 Trips into Danger (Tehlikeye 3 Yolculuk, 2003) and The Lost Dreamer (Kayıp Rüyacı, 2011), she wrote her young adult novels Waiting for Defne (Defne’yi Beklerken, 2013) and Messed Up (Darmadağın, 2015). Her latest book is a children’s novel named Case Study: Home-Schooled Ekim (Denek E.E.E., 2019) and it is about the tough face of city life through a science experiment. Der lives in İstanbul with her husband and two kids.
