TINY GREEN STINK BUG

Füsun Çetinel

Editor: Müren Beykan
Illustrator: Yusuf Tansu Özel

Sometimes freedom is on the wings of a tiny living being.

Füsun Çetinel is loved for her unique characters and entertaining narrative that depicts the bond between children and nature. With her new book, she invites her readers to the world of a boy named Aziz who moves to a big city from his small village. Çetinel gives ear to the cries of a kid and a tiny bug echoing among the crowds, on the moving stairways, in the metro stations and between concrete towers. The novel portraits the city life through the eyes of an innocent child yearning for his village life, who had to confront with a group of people in the metro to defend the life of a tiny bug. The author assimilates the small boy’s longing for freedom with the struggle of the tiny bug to escape from metro carriage Notable for the strong depictions and fluent narrative, the novel blends modern people’s prejudices about immigration and outsiders by the non-marginalizing perspective of a child full of hope.

In order to earn his pocket money, he starts to sell paper tissues after school in the metro. As he observes this giant city’s people in the underground, he feels more and more like an outsider.
